The painting is one of two presented to the town during world war one. Its condition has been deteriorating and the concern is that almost 100 years after it was presented to the town it could be damaged beyond repair.

A second painting depicting Campbell Street, Brockmoor soldier Sgt. William H. Jordan heroically rescuing an injured comrade from no-man’s land remains missing. Sgt. Jordan was subsequently killed on the opening day of the Battle of Loos.
