TV PERSONALITY Christopher Biggins stopped off in the borough to launch a new spa and lend his support to a borough cancer charity.

The comic visited Brierley Hill to officially open the ‘Imagine Spa’ at the Copthorne Hotel.

The newly decorated facility boasts three beauty treatment rooms offering full spa services including massages, facials, waxing, manicures, pedicures as well as a men’s spa and Biggins took time out to enjoy a head massage from staff.

The actor, who recently starred as Widow Twankey at Wolverhampton Grand, also met representatives from Dudley Cancer Support – who have joined forces with the spa in a unique partnership.

The hotel made a donation towards the ongoing work of the charity from all spa bookings made on the launch day, while hotel manager Matt Ward also donated treatment vouchers to the therapists from Cancer Support, who regularly volunteer their services to provide reiki, reflexology, massage, aromatherapy, relaxation and hot stones to patients.

Officially cutting the ribbon at the new spa, Biggins joked: “I am very excited to be here and I am going to take all my clothes off and have a full body massage. It is the only reason I came.”

Biggins and civic dignitaries were shown the extensive facilities, before the comic made a surprise visit to the Dudley Cancer Support’s base at The White House in Ednam Road, Dudley, to meet members of the weekly art class.

Dudley Cancer Support manager, Chris Barron, said: “You should have seen the looks on their faces when he walked in. We told them they would have a real life model to draw this week. They loved meeting him and he stayed for a cup of tea and a chat and talked about his experience of cancer with his dad.”

Biggins said: “I always try and support cancer charities as my father died of cancer 15 months ago. It is marvellous to be able to do things like this to help.”

Mr Barron added: “We are very grateful to Matt and the team at the hotel for thinking of us and we hope this will be the start of a long and productive partnership with them.”
