A project to brighten up the centre of Brierley Hill High Street is underway. Following a feasibility study funded by Dudley Council, Brierley Hill traders have pledged £2,500 towards the project. This has now been matched by £2,500 from Community First, Brierley Hill – a government initiative to encourage volunteer participation in the local community.

Shane Birch-Bastock, who chairs the traders association met with Lynn Glazzard of Stourbridge College and Tim Sunter, chair of Brierley Hill Civic Society to see how to take the project forward. Stourbridge College run a highly successful horticultural course based in Kidderminster.

Initial thoughts are that, although it may be possible to do something this year, the demands of the growing season mean that the project should aim to make its first impact during 2014.

The next step is to draw up a budget for the scheme, contact key stakeholders and engage with volunteers.
