Brierley Hill Civic Society will be holding its official launch next month at St Michael’s Church Brierley Hill. The launch will commence at 5.30pm on Monday 15th February.
The Society is being set up to promote research into the history of area, a sense of civic pride, and local arts and cultural events. It will also comment on the regeneration plans for the area.
Local member Tim Sunter, who is facilitating the event, said:
“A group of local residents has been meeting for several months and we now feel it is time for an official launch.
“Already we have had fascinating talks on the surprisingly rich botanical life in the area, the conservation of the High Street and the new plans for regenerating Brierley Hill. We were delighted to visit the Glass Centre in Moor Street to record the interior of this historic building.
“We think that there is definitely a place for a group to promote the heritage of the area. It is surprising how many interesting buildings there are locally. We’ve already made representations to Dudley College on the future of the Glass Centre in Brierley Hill and to the council on the Area Action plan.”
The launch will hear speakers from Dudley Archives about how to get involved in their latest history project and the National Youth Theatre will be discussing their plans for a summer production based on family memories in Brierley Hill.
Anyone interested in joining the society is welcome to attend the launch.
