Christmas tragedy at Corbyns Hall Deep Pit, Pensnett

CHRISTMAS 1844 was not a happy one for several residents of Kingswinford, Brockmoor and Pensnett, as on Monday 23rd December that year, a group of eight men and boys arrived for their shift at six in the morning at the Deep Pit, Corbyns Hall, and within a few minutes all of them had perished.

Local building society’s keyless moneybox

IT was a picture in Bugle 1066, a 1935 advert for the Brierley Hill and Stourbridge Incorporated Building Society, that caught the eye of Barbara Jones of Wordsley, because she has her own piece of related memorabilia, which she kindly brought along to the Bugle office.

Colour images of lost glass and brick makers

WE’RE VERY lucky, in the 21st century, to still have such an iconic reminder of the Black Country’s glass trade, in the form of Wordsley’s Red House Cone and the museum built around it.
